Marrakesh November light

I took my camera to Marrakesh to capture the atmosphere of this spectacular town.
I wanted to convey the light and energy of the souks and the less populated lanes in the north and south of the Medina. I was overwhelmed by the colours and smells of the markets and I was tempted to capture everything with my camera. I was with three friends and I stopped whenever they were distracted by something beautiful.
We were drawn to ceramics, slippers, beaten metal, woven material, grain and fruit. The colours never seemed to clash and the whole effect was harmonious so I couldn't go wrong. I tried to create patterns with my shots so that each picture had a focus and a clear composition.
My companions were gracious in letting me use them as moving models in my shots. They were aware of the camera but able to ignore it. I looked for moments that captured the vitality of the day like the pomegranate squashing stall, the moment we were accessorised by a stall holder as Berber women, and the way we knocked on riad doors to ask for a peek inside. We were all drawn to the incense stall, and we relished getting lost in the ancient shady lanes.
Traffic is both ancient and modern and we we saw it all. Noisy, fast, and not a care for the pedestrian.
I glanced down alleyways and found men up ladders and guffawing donkeys. A pink tuk -tuk provided an uproarious ride at the end of the day.
A camera day not to be forgotten in a hurry.
